AIB DBSC Summer Season Update from Commodore Ann Kirwan
I hope you are all enjoying a fuller sailing season than we have had for the past two seasons. Up to July 24th we have run 417 race starts for 315 boats, with 96 teams of Race Committee personnel aboard the DBSC committee boats MacLir and Freebird, the DBSC West Pier Hut, DMYC’s The Goose, and RIYC’s Spirit of the Irish. Thankfully we have very few cancellations due to too much wind, and recently we’ve had mostly light winds.
Many of you enjoyed breezy conditions for HYC Wave regatta, and for the DMYC regatta on the first two weekends in June. The NYC regatta was next and unfortunately the RIYC regatta fell foul of strong winds coupled with a big swell. The RSTGYC regatta closed the 2022 Dun Laoghaire regatta season on July 2nd. Thanks to all the clubs for great racing and to the organisers and all the volunteers, many of whom were DBSC regulars.
Well done to DBSC members who took part in the Round Ireland Race and Cork Week, and the best of luck to our members taking part in the many post-pandemic events that are being staged this season at home and abroad.
As you know Chris Moore has retired from the position of Honorary Secretary of DBSC having served over thirteen years on the committee, nine of these as a Flag Officer. As posted on our website we are delighted that Chris will continue to look after our committee boats and hut, and will assist with the marks. We are very fortunate that Rosemary Roy has taken on the role of Honorary Secretary since July 1st. I look forward to working closely with Rosemary in the coming months.
We are extremely grateful to our title sponsor AIB PRIVATE BANKING. Thanks also to our supporters Viking Marine, The Shed Distillery, Killen Marine, Facet Jewellers and MGM boats.
And finally a special word of thanks to the DBSC Flag Officers and Committee members for their efforts in the many aspects of running DBSC, and to our esteemed team of 50 volunteers who turn out 4 days a week over our five-month season to ensure we provide you with great racing.
